The Cat Purring

Purring is a distinctive sound made by all species of cats, and is part of their communication system. Varies by cats (eg, volume and tone), and one species to another, and may be characterized as a ringing tone. In domestic cats purring has a frequency between 25 and 150 vibrations per second.

This special tone indicates confidence and well with the environment, with other cats and their human companions, and occurs when they feel safe and protected. No one knows for sure where it came from this rather curious sound is a vibration, have been attributed to different locations, without being pinpointed.

The reason that cats purr is unknown. Cats usually do when they relax when touched, or when they eat. Cats purr at times to give birth. However there are known cases of domestic cats that have done when they were wounded, sick, sore or dying.

Purring may be a system of signals between the mother and the kittens sick. One theory is that it is a sign of love, but trying to show friendship, for example, when a cat is nervous (perhaps requiring medical attention) can purr to avoid being hurt.

The German ethologist Paul Leyhausen interpreted as a sign that the cat purrs is communicating is not a threat.
